Cancer Support Services in Glasgow | Spotlight

There are over 6,000 local and national support services listed across the UK on Cancer Care Map. Today we’re spotlighting some of the cancer support services available in and around Glasgow.

 

Shine Cancer Support – Glasgow Meet Up Group for Young Adults

Support group meeting monthly for young adults in Glasgow living with cancer. The group alternates between daytime coffee at cafés with evening drinks in a bar, together with other activities and welcome suggestions for things to do. The charity also provides advice on relationships, work, travel insurance, menopause, mental health, fertility and parenting through cancer.

Rainbow Valley

Free residential courses and retreats for people who have experienced cancer. It offers a holistic two day programme which includes nutrition, exercise, relaxation and complementary therapies through their 7 Steps to Health approach. It also offers follow-up courses that cover anxiety management, practical nutrition and sleep.

Rays of Hope 

Charity providing practical and emotional support to people living with cancer, and their loved ones and carers. It offers the chance to meet others with shared experiences. This includes exercise sessions and walking groups, social activities, arts and craft classes, cookery demonstrations, holistic therapy workshops and nutrition advice, a choir, and counselling.

The Beatson Cancer Charity

Charity providing non-clinical support to current and former Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre patients, loved ones and carers. It offers wellbeing and specialist services including complementary therapies, befriending services, bereavement support, grants and funding, specialist health and work support, and specialist activities delivered by staff and volunteers.

CHAS – Robin House

Hospice for children and young people up to the age of 21 living with life-limiting conditions. It provides medical care, home visits, family support, bereavement care, emotional support, a hydrotherapy room, events and activities and an accessible garden.

Carer’s Trust Scotland

Charity providing information, resources and support to unpaid carers. Find information on benefits and finances, being a young carer, sitting and befriending services, respite care, employment and study support and healthcare. It also signposts to other carer support organisations and services nationwide.

Melanoma Action and Support Scotland (MASScot)

Charity offering free complementary therapy and one-to-one emotional support to people affected by skin cancer. Services include hypnotherapy and other holistic therapies and a confidential phone helpline which allows people to talk to another person with a lived experience of skin cancer.

ACCORD Hospice

Hospice offering palliative and end of life care to people living with life limiting conditions. Services are provided in people’s homes or at the hospice and include pain and symptom management, social activities and groups, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, complementary therapies and spiritual care. Counselling and bereavement support is also available for loved ones.
