Cancer Support Services in Durham | Spotlight

There are over 6,000 local and national support services listed across the UK on Cancer Care Map. Today we’re spotlighting some of the cancer support services available in and around Durham.

 

 

My Wellbeing Space

Online resource providing information and advice to help people affected by cancer. The website has video clips featuring real-life local people, including patient experiences, and information from healthcare professionals in north east England. Topics include health and emotional wellbeing, food and nutrition, financial concerns, fatigue, late effects of cancer treatment and more.

Buddy Cups

Support group for people living with or beyond breast cancer including their loved ones and carers. It offers friendship and emotional support including monthly coffee afternoons. Other activities include evening events, walks, a book club and arts and crafts activities.

Macmillan Cancer Support Information Centre at University Hospital of North Durham

Cancer support centre for people living with cancer and their loved ones and carers. It offers free and confidential information and support including counselling, benefits advice, self-help and practical support, courses and workshops.

Durham and District Prostate Support Group

Support group for people living with, or affected by, prostate cancer. It meets once a month on a Monday night. Awareness of prostate cancer talks are given to local community centres, groups and activities

Supportive

Transport charity helping people to get out more, meet new people, get to appointments, social meet ups and generally live a more active life. Passengers using its volunteer transport schemes need to pay a small contribution to cover the mileage expenses.

Durham County Carers Support

Organisation for local unpaid carers. It offers information and advice, carers breaks, practical help with completing forms, grants and funding, carers support groups, events, counselling and training. In addition, it offers benefits advice, new benefit support and carers discount cards.
