Support for Carers | Help and Support

10 June 2024 — david-allen

With an estimated 1.1 million carers in the UK supporting people living with cancer, we know that finding the right help and support can make an incredible difference to both the lives of patients and their carers. You’ll find hundreds of services on our Cancer Care Map that do just that, but to mark Carer’s Week, we’d like to highlight just a few of the organisations that offer help, guidance and respite with carers in mind.

Carers UK

Charity and community group providing advice, support and information to carers through a telephone helpline and digital resources. It also campaigns for carer’s rights and policy change and works with authorities to improve carer support and services.

Carers Trust

Trust providing information, resources and support to carers. People can find information on benefits and finances, being a young carer, sitting and befriending services, respite care, employment, study support and healthcare for carers and their loved ones. It also signposts to other carer support organisations and services nationwide.

Carers First

Charity providing information and advice to unpaid carers of all ages. It supports carers with practical information on employment issues, accessing respite, navigating conversations with medical and social care professionals, benefits and financial advice, training, social activities and finding support groups. The Carers Hub is available daily, where carers can talk with specialised support staff via the telephone helpline and the online forum.

Carers Direct Helpline by NHS

NHS helpline that provides free and confidential advice, information and support to unpaid carers in England. The helpline can put callers in touch with specialist national or local sources of help, including social care departments, respite centres, specialist charities and other carer support groups. Call the helpline on: 0300 123 1053
