Cancer Support Services in Hull | Spotlight

There are over 6,000 local and national support services listed across the UK on Cancer Care Map. Today we’re spotlighting some of the cancer support services available in and around Hull.

Yorkshire’s Brain Tumour Charity (YBTC) – Support group for people living with a brain tumour. Facilitated by a trained peer support volunteer, it usually meets on the third Tuesday of each month, 2pm to 3.30pm. It aims to offer the chance to get information and advice, and meet and chat to others with shared experiences. Before attending, contact YBTC to confirm the details. 

HER Breast Friends – Charity providing support to people living with breast cancer. It offers free support, information and guidance including monthly coffee mornings, complementary therapies, crafting, a bra service, a wig service, and more. 

Active Together (Yorkshire Cancer Research) – Free personalised fitness, nutrition and wellbeing support for adults living with and beyond cancer, delivered by qualified professionals. The service helps people live with the side effects of cancer, to prepare for and recover from treatment. Referrals can only be made by healthcare professionals from the hospital.

Dove House Hospice – Hospice for people living with life-limiting conditions and their loved ones. It offers pain and symptom management, respite and end of life care, therapies and support groups, including one for bereaved children and teenagers. Services can be accessed as an inpatient or outpatient.

British Red Cross Home care Service Humberside – Free home care service for people who are back home after a stay in hospital. It offers short term support including help getting home from hospital, companionship, help with everyday tasks like shopping and the loan of equipment to stay independent at home and when out and about.

Move Against Cancer 5K Your Way – Community-based support group for anyone affected by cancer. Meeting on the last Saturday of every month, the meetups encourage people of all ages and abilities to walk, jog or run all or part of the 5k route and socialise afterwards.
