Cancer Support Services in Sunderland | Spotlight

There are over 6,000 local and national support services listed across the UK on Cancer Care Map. Today we’re spotlighting some of the cancer support services available in and around Sunderland. 

 

 

Together We Can

Support group offering peer support and wellbeing activities for people affected by cancer, including loved ones and carers. It runs a coffee morning on the second Monday of the month, 11am to 1pm, and a craft and wellbeing session on the fourth Monday of the month, also 11am to 1pm. Battle Cancer – Fitness for Post Cancer

Strength and fitness programme for people who have finished cancer treatment. A 12 week programme involving group physical fitness sessions, nutrition advice, and peer support. Use their website application page to find out more and register. To join, your doctor will need to give written medical consent.

Hug in a Bag

Charity providing emotional and practical support to people living with breast cancer. It sends a “hug in a bag” containing gifts and information leaflets to people diagnosed with breast cancer in University Hospital of North Durham and Darlington Memorial Hospital.

Cancer Connections

Support centre providing information, advice and support to anyone living with cancer and their loved ones. Services include counselling, bereavement care, advice, and complementary therapies. Friends of someone with cancer can be supported in the form of a conversation with them around someone’s cancer. Call to make an appointment and/or see website for more information.

The Charlie & Carter Foundation

Charity for parents of seriously unwell children with life-limiting conditions, who need round the clock nursing care or specialist nursing facilities. It offers financial support, information, advice and support and raises awareness.

FACT – Fighting all Cancers Together

Charity offering a range of services for people living with cancer, from diagnosis to several years after. It offers support groups, exercise classes and walking groups, coffee mornings, counselling, children and youth support, and wig and mastectomy wear services. Life Kitchen

Organisation for people living with cancer. It offers cookery classes for people who have had chemotherapy and have lost their sense of taste due to treatment or Covid.
