Cancer Support Services in Portsmouth | Spotlight

There are over 6,000 local and national support services listed across the UK on Cancer Care Map. Today we’re spotlighting some of the cancer support services available in and around Portsmouth.

 

 

HASAG Coffee Morning

Coffee morning providing information and advice for anyone living with an asbestos-related disease including their loved ones. The group is also an opportunity to meet and chat to others with shared experiences, and has a nurse specialist/ solicitors in attendance to offer support. Held on the third Thursday of the month, 10.30am to 12.30pm. The national service also offers counselling, legal and financial help and benefits advice. See website for details.

OGC Splash

Support group for people living with and beyond oesophageal cancer. It offers general advice, information, support and an opportunity for attendees to share their experiences with one another through a telephone call, or at face to face meetings. It also organises social outings and there is a group for carers.

Harbour Cancer Support

Charity offering free practical and emotional support to people living with cancer. Services include complementary therapies, coffee mornings, counselling, information, a befriending service, support for children and an art group. The centre is open Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm. Prostate Cancer Support Organisation (PCaSO)

Support group for men living with prostate cancer and their loved ones and carers. Group meetings are a chance for people to talk and share experiences with others in a similar situation. For more information and meeting dates, see website and/or contact the group organiser.

Headway Portsmouth & South East Hampshire

A local charity, located at the Mountbatten Centre providing information and support to people living with brain injuries and their families and friends. Services include monthly meetings, arts and crafts, social nights and activities. It runs fundraising events and signposts to other support services in the local area.

Mayfair Homecare

Organisation providing home care and support, including independent living support, preparing meals, cleaning, personal care, medication assistance, companionship, social interaction, and live in care. Services incur a fee. Please see the website for further details and contact form.

Roy Castle Lung Foundation

Support group for people living with lung cancer. It offers the chance to meet others with shared experiences. Meeting on the first Tuesday of the month, 1.15pm to 3pm. See website, call, or send an online message for more information.
