Cancer Support Services in Leeds | City Spotlight

The city of Leeds is home to one of the largest cancer centres in the UK and provides some of the most up-to-date treatment, care and support for people with cancer. 

For our latest City Spotlight, we’ve taken a look at just a handful of some of the incredible services on offer in Leeds.

St Gemma’s Hospice

St Gemma’s Hospice is a Leeds-based charity providing expert care and support for local people with life-limiting and terminal illnesses. As well as offering bereavement and family support, therapy service and home support, they also provide care to patients and in the Hospice’s In-Patient Unit, through the St Gemma’s community team. There care is always completely free of charge.

Breast Cancer Haven – Yorkshire

When your world has been turned upside down by breast cancer, Breast Cancer Haven provide personalised support to help put your life back together. They provide 12 free hours of counselling, as well as support, therapies, weekly classes, talks, workshops, yoga and tai chi. Support is currently being offered live online and over the phone so you can access our services wherever you are. 

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in partnership with Macmillan

Leeds Cancer Support complements care provided by the clinical teams. They offer information and a wide range of support in a warm and welcoming environment. Specialist staff and trained volunteers are on hand to talk through the services available and help you to decide which are the most beneficial to you, including hair loss advice, reflexology, yoga, reiki, cranio-sacral therapy plus many others.

Move Against Cancer – 5K Your Way Move Against Cancer Support Group – Leeds

A community-based initiative to encourage those living with and beyond cancer, to walk, jog, run, cheer or volunteer at a local 5k Your Way park run event on the last Saturday of every month, followed by a cuppa and a chat. They currently offering online support and lockdown resources and all ages and abilities welcome. Visit the website for more details.

Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation – Leeds Support Group

Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is the only UK lung cancer charity dedicated to helping everyone affected by the disease. Not only have they funded millions of pounds of essential lung cancer research, but support everyone affected by lung cancer – from diagnosis, through treatment, living with the disease and end of life care. Meetings are usually on the 1st Monday of the month.

Bone Cancer Research Trust

The Bone Cancer Research Trust is the leading charity dedicated to fighting primary bone cancer and they are uniquely placed to make a difference through research, information, awareness and support. For those affected by the disease right now, their top-quality information and supportive network means no-one should have to feel alone or isolated. For more information visit the website.
