Support for Skin Cancer in the UK | Skin Cancer Awareness

26 May 2023 - by David Allen

Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers in the UK with approximately 50 new cases diagnosed every day.

May is Skin Cancer Awareness month, so we’ve taken a look at a few services to help those concerned with skin cancer in the UK.

Melanoma UK

This leading charity provides a full range of information and support to people living with melanoma. Their services include a telephone helpline, online webinars, a Facebook support group and weekly virtual meet ups. They also have their own smart phone app which enables people to use clinically approved technology to check their skin spots and moles for the most common types of skin cancer.

Skcin

The Karen Clifford Skin Cancer Foundation promotes the importance of sun safety and the early detection of different types of skin cancer. Providing information about all aspects of skin cancer the charity also works to raise awareness through education with accreditations for schools, nurseries and workplaces.

Skin Support

Created by the British Association of Dermatologists, Skin Support is an online support hub providing information on various skin conditions and self-help management. They offer a range of digital support materials and signpost to a number national, regional and local support groups available for people living with skin conditions.

MiiSkin

Whilst not directly a cancer support service, the MiiSkin app helps self-track and monitor skin changes and moles over time. People can photograph their moles within the app and then compare the photographs over time and side-by-side to identify any differences. It also has reminders to do skin checks and provides information about different types of skin cancers.

Support for Bowel Cancer in the UK | Bowel Cancer Awareness

Bowel cancer (sometimes referred to as colorectal cancer) is the 4th most common cancer in the UK with over 40,000 people diagnosed each year. Almost 9 in 10 people that receive a bowel cancer diagnosis are over 60 but survival rates are significantly higher if diagnosis is found in the early stages. April sees us recognise Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, so we've taken a look at some of the great support services available in the UK.
