Cancer Support Services in Cardiff | Spotlight

There are over 6,000 local and national support services listed across the UK on Cancer Care Map. Today we’re spotlighting some of the cancer support services available in and around Cardiff.

 

 

LATCH – Welsh Children’s Cancer Charity

Charity providing free onsite accommodation and practical and emotional support for loved ones and carers of children being treated at the hospital for cancer and leukaemia. Additional services include counselling and alternative therapies, support groups, treats and get-togethers. It also offers signposting to other services, advocacy and social work services, and holidays.

CIty Hospice

Hospice for people living with life-limiting conditions and their loved ones and carers. It offers palliative care, either in people’s homes or at its day care centre. Services include symptom management, counselling, complementary therapy, bereavement support, occupational therapy, welfare advice and group workshops.

BreastFriends – Cardiff and Vale

Support group for people living with breast cancer. It offers a chance to meet others with shared experiences each month, learn more information from guest speakers and it holds events that provide dietary advice.

Tenovus – Sing with Us Choirs

Cancer care charity, Tenovus, offer a range of help and support services including their 16 Sing with Us choirs across Wales. The choirs are for anyone affected by cancer offering support, friendship and fun, and their ground-breaking research has shown singing is good for you too by reducing anxiety and lifting your spirits. You don’t need to read music, or even be a great singer, just be willing to have a go and join in. They sing a range of contemporary songs from the last 50 years from modern classics from the likes of Queen, Elvis, The Beach Boys, Take That or Adele.

Velindre Cancer Centre

One of the largest cancer centres in the UK the Velindre Cancer Centre provides specialist cancer services to over 1.5 million people in South East Wales and beyond. The centre diagnose and treat cancer using a range of therapies such as Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy treatment and offer psychological help to families and carers. They also offer nutrition and dietetic advice, mindfulness groups, acupuncture, massage, reflexology, reiki and more. There is a palliative care department, a benefits and financial advice service, and the Velindre Mindfulness App 

Faceup Cymru

Charity supporting people who have been treated for head, neck or oral cancer at the University Hospital, Cardiff. It offers advice and emotional and practical support including grants and benefits advice, and online videos showing the treatment pathway. They aim to set up a “buddying group” where people who have a newly diagnosed cancer can meet others with shared experiences.
