Cancer Support Services in York | Spotlight

There are over 6,000 local and national support services listed across the UK on Cancer Care Map. Today we’re spotlighting some of the cancer support services available in and around York.

 

 

Ella Dawson Foundation

Charity for young adults aged 18 to 30 years who are living with cancer. Services include counselling, exercise/yoga sessions, support with nutrition, complementary therapies, support for loved ones and carers, and more.

Athletica Health Physiotherapy

Cancer rehabilitation programme for women living with and beyond cancer. Led by qualified cancer rehabilitation physiotherapists, it offers one to one and group sessions aimed at helping you improve your strength, mobility and overall wellbeing. This includes free small group Pilates.

York Against Cancer

The small charity that makes a big difference is based at the cancer care centre at York Hospital and provides practical help and support for people living with cancer. The service offers a wide range of support including practical help and support for patients and their families living with cancer in York, North and East Yorkshire and they fund vital research and education to prevent and cure cancer in the future. The Leveson Centre offers complementary therapies, online pamper therapy sessions, benefits advice, counselling and links to support groups. It also provides free minibus service transport to St James’ Hospital, Leeds, and respite breaks in Yapham and Filey.

Bluebird Care York

Part of the UK wide Bluebird Care service provider that offers support and care at home. Services range from shopping and companionship to full personal care and live-in care in the York area. They work with and alongside families and individuals to tailor services to help customers stay in control of their own care for as long as they are able to. York Prostate Cancer Support Group

Service based at York Hospital that offers information, guidance and support to people living with and affected by prostate cancer. From practical information to a listening ear they also host guest speakers to talk on relevant subjects plus the opportunity to speak to clinical nurse specialists. Supported by Tackle Prostate Cancer, there is also a helpline for those needing help and support. For more information please visit the website.

5K Your Way Move Against Cancer Support Group – York

Community-based initiative to encourage those living with and affected by cancer to be more active. They particularly encourage people to walk, jog, run, cheer or volunteer at a local 5k Your Way parkrun event on the last Saturday of every month, followed by a cuppa and a chat. All ages and abilities welcome.
