Support for Prostate Cancer in the UK | Prostate Cancer Awareness

Each year, more than 50,000 men in the UK are diagnosed with prostate cancer making it the most common cancer in men. That means 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.

This Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, we take a look at some of the incredible support organisations specialising in supporting those living with prostate cancer in the UK.

Prostate Cancer UK

This National charity provides information and advice about prostate cancer as well as how to check possible signs or symptoms. It offers online resources, one-to-one support, a specialist nurse helpline, an online community forum, and signposting to their local support groups and events that take place across the UK.

Out with Prostate Cancer

A specialist support group for gay and bisexual men and trans women living with or affected by prostate cancer. The group meets monthly to discuss their concerns and share their experiences. At present, the group meets virtually on Zoom on the first Saturday of every month between 2pm and 4pm.

The Prostate Project

This charity’s ambition is to give men a better chance of fighting prostate cancer and in the past 20 years has raised over £8 million to help the Royal Surrey County Hospital achieve ‘Centre of Excellence’ status in the treatment of prostate cancer. Supporting hospitals in Surrey in their efforts to detect and treat prostate cancer, they also signpost to support groups and provide information.

Tackle Prostate Cancer

OWise 

Following the success of their breast cancer app, OWise prostate cancer is specialist website and mobile app designed for people living with prostate cancer. Providing safe, reliable and credible information it also includes practical support and guidance. The app can be individually tailored and allows people to record and monitor their day to day wellbeing.

Prostate Cancer Research

Prostate Cancer Research funds a diverse range of projects across the UK in prostate cancer with a focus on involving patients to ensure the research is relevant to those living with prostate cancer. As well as their research funding, they offer webinars and online guides and booklets to provide information those that need it most.
