The city of Aberdeen is most notably known for its fishing and shipping industries and is the 3rd largest city in Scotland. As a city it also has an incredible offering of cancer support services for those living in and around the city.
Our latest City Spotlight takes a look at just a small collection of the incredible cancer services in Aberdeen.

Maggie’s Centre is located at the Elizabeth Montgomerie Building Aberdeen Royal Infirmary providing information, activities plus a space to meet and share experiences with others affected by cancer. Services include regular support groups covering different subjects, welfare and benefits advice, wellbeing workshops and complementary therapies. People are usually encouraged to drop in for a chat, but you should visit the website for more details in current situation.
Aberdeen Haematology Support Group
A charity that provides support to people living with or affected by blood cancer. Regular meetings are hosted by a haematology clinical nurse specialist who will be on hand to provide practical and emotional support as well as the chance to meet others and share experiences. Meetings are now offered virtually so register online to attend.
A small local charity offering a free confidential service for children and young people under 18 who have been affected by loss and bereavement through a series of one to one sessions or group meetings. This month they have been offering guided mediation online to escape the stresses of life in what they call “Mindfulness Monday”.
A local Aberdeen charity set up to help support children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their families. Charlie House organises activities and projects to enable families to gain confidence, engage socially, enjoy activities together, meet others in a similar situation, share information and to get emotional and practical support when they need it most.
A support service that offers emotional and social support to all those affected by cancer right across Scotland. In normal times the service offers complementary and relaxation therapies, a therapy garden and shop which is accessible to clients and the local community plus activities such as health walks and healthy eating workshops
Urological Cancer Charity (UCAN)
UCAN has been set up as a charity dedicated to raising awareness of urological cancers, and improving support and quality of life for people and families who are affected across North Scotland. They provide practical information and help plus social and psychological help through support groups and a buddy network which allows people living with cancer to share their experiences.
