
Let’s Tackle It – Prostate Cancer Support from the Black Health Initiative
Peer support group for men affected by prostate cancer who are of African, Caribbean, Black British and Asian heritage. It aims to offer a safe and confidential space to meet others with shared experiences, and get information and support. Led by Nurse David Francis, it meets in person on the first Thursday of the month for two hours. Contact for more information.
Yorkshire’s Brain Tumour Charity (YBTC)
Charity supporting people living with a brain tumour and their loved ones and carers. It offers a range of non-clinical support including peer support groups, one to one peer support from trained volunteers, and wellbeing calls. The charity also delivers accessible wellbeing walks across Yorkshire, providing opportunities to connect with others in similar circumstances. Additional support includes welfare guidance, information, and signposting to relevant services.
St Gemma’s Hospice is a Leeds-based charity providing expert care and support for local people with life-limiting and terminal illnesses. As well as offering bereavement and family support, therapy service and home support, they also provide care to patients and in the Hospice’s In-Patient Unit, through the St Gemma’s community team. There care is always completely free of charge.
Volunteer led peer support group offering support and practical advice to people affected by pancreatic cancer. They aim to offer an informal safe space to meet others with shared experiences, meeting in person every six weeks for a cuppa at different venues around Leeds and Wakefield.
Charity supporting people aged 60 and over. It offers emotional, social and practical support including weekly lunch clubs and other regular activities such as seated exercise, dance sessions, walking group and other social meet ups. Accessible transport is available for some OPAL activities, and one to one support is also offered. OPAL is based in and manages the Welcome In Community Centre which is also a community cafe open to all ages.
Charity supporting unpaid adult carers. It offers information, advice, advocacy, support and carers groups. This includes help to access benefits, groups and activities for carers and the people they care for, training, advocacy and more.
Move Against Cancer – 5K Your Way Move Against Cancer Support Group – Leeds
A community-based initiative to encourage those living with and beyond cancer, to walk, jog, run, cheer or volunteer at a local 5k Your Way park run event on the last Saturday of every month, followed by a cuppa and a chat.
